The 361st Senate meeting of Punjab University (PU) was held on Thursday at the Old Campus Senate Hall, chaired by Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Ali, on behalf of the Punjab Governor and Chancellor.
Major Scholarship Allocation
During the session, the Senate approved scholarships worth Rs. 170 million for students, reaffirming the university’s commitment to supporting higher education through financial assistance. The Vice Chancellor emphasized that no student will be forced to quit studies due to financial constraints, adding that a subsidy of Rs. 219,000 per student will be provided this year. Additionally, hostel residents will benefit from an extra subsidy of Rs. 150,000.
Strategic Reforms and Savings
The meeting also introduced PU’s first-ever strategic plan, focusing on academic, financial, and administrative reforms. Prof Dr Muhammad Ali informed attendees that the university had saved Rs. 240 million in electricity costs over the last eight months, underscoring PU’s commitment to resource efficiency.
Research and Development Initiatives
The Senate further approved the establishment of an endowment fund to support research, pensions, and development projects. These measures are aimed at strengthening PU’s academic and financial sustainability.
Budgets Approved
In addition, the Senate endorsed the recommendations of the Academic Council and formally approved the budgets for 2024–25 and 2025–26, paving the way for continued growth and reforms at the university.
