The Sindh government has announced plans to launch a new “Pink Taxi” service dedicated to women, aimed at providing safer and more reliable public transport. The announcement was made by Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari during a ceremony in Karachi on Thursday.
Women-Exclusive Pink Taxi Service
Bilawal revealed that the Pink Taxi initiative would be rolled out soon, expanding Sindh’s women-focused transport network. The scheme follows earlier successful projects such as the Pink Bus service and the introduction of electric buses in Karachi. With this, Sindh will become the first province in Pakistan to provide women-exclusive public transport on multiple platforms.
Pink Scooters Distribution
At the same event, Bilawal distributed keys to free electric Pink Scooters among female students and workers. He said the scooter scheme was designed to reduce travel difficulties for women who face daily mobility challenges, particularly in education and employment sectors.
Building on Sindh’s Welfare Initiatives
Bilawal further highlighted that the provincial government recently launched the Benazir Hari Card scheme, offering financial assistance to small farmers affected by floods. He emphasized that these initiatives reflect Sindh’s strong focus on social welfare and inclusive development.
Empowering Women for Progress
Speaking to participants, Bilawal stressed that empowering women is a cornerstone of Sindh’s development agenda:
“Pakistan’s progress in any sector will not be possible without women’s active participation,” he remarked.
With the Pink Taxi scheme, Sindh aims to take another major step toward ensuring safer, affordable, and reliable transport for women across the province.
